My friend and I decided to visit Ganges Indian Restaurant for dinner as options to experience different cuisines were limited in our town. So my first option was to check Google Maps to view the food and location.

We took a Didi (it’s the Uber of China) at dusk, and upon arriving, we saw a few patrons enjoying a drink.

The restaurant did not have overly bright lights, nor was it too dim. It was somewhere in the middle for night-time dining. Soothing music was playing as we took our seats. A waiter came by and placed a couple of menus before us. He was pleasant enough; he promptly took our orders and then left.

Check out the Menu

I started with their Caésar Salad; I should mention that while skipping through the menu, one notices they have more than a few VEGETARIAN options at this Indian restaurant. I am a meat lover, so I did not bother browsing that section for too long. In retrospect, I will endeavor to ensure I’m on the lookout for vegan options when dining.

Dig in

The wait for our meal did not take long at all. Now let us proceed to the food.

The Caésar Salad has a lot more mayo than I care for, with chunks of cucumber and lettuce with a selection of tomatoes. There is the presence of dusted olives on top. The grilled chicken they mixed in adds a smoky taste to the salad. My palette was playing detective, trying to uncover the parmesan cheese though. It does not taste like any Caésar Salad I have enjoyed.

Their Chilli Chicken was saltier than I expected. I was anticipating more of the cornstarch on the chicken for a crispier and thicker batter with a mildly sweet taste. As for the name ‘chili,’ it’s more of the color than the spice of the dish for its name. The sauce is of a thin consistency comprising tomato sauce with herbs, sweet pepper, onions, and chilli vinegar.

I decided to have the Saffron Basmati Rice with the chicken. It was pretty flavorful as opposed to plain rice. If you feel like kicking it up a notch, go for this one. It is fluffy yet a little oily and would go well with curries.

I also tried the Cranberry Juice without ice. This beverage was cold, so the ice was unnecessary, and it remained chilled throughout my meal. It is a tart drink; it doesn’t taste like a watered-down version of cranberry juice at all.

At Ganges, they have high seated chairs and tables for dining inside and patio tables if you want to grab a bite outside the establishment instead. However, if you choose to do this at night, beware of pesky mosquitoes. For this reason, I suggest having dinner inside or wearing clothing that does not expose you to bites. Of course, if you have mosquito repellent when you go out for dinner, then smart move!

Here are some more of their dishes. I haven’t tried these, but you can look to see which you’d go for should you ever visit:

  • Plain Fragrant Indian Basmati Rice
  • Salmon or Chicken Tikka
  • Butter or Garlic Naan
  • Vegetable Samosa
  • Aloo Chaat
